🔍 GitLab Report: Developers Embrace AI as an Essential Tool—Despite Rising Concerns

In a new report released by GitLab, the integration of AI in software development is not only accelerating—it’s becoming essential. The 2024 Global DevSecOps Report reveals that 83% of developers are now using AI tools in their workflow, citing productivity and automation as major benefits. Despite some ethical and security concerns, the adoption rate continues to surge.

🔧 Why Developers Are Turning to AI
GitLab’s findings suggest that AI is no longer just a “nice-to-have” — it’s now central to modern development practices. Developers are using AI for:

  • Code generation and completion

  • Automated testing

  • Security and vulnerability detection

  • Project management optimisation

đź”’ Balancing Innovation with Responsibility
However, 95% of respondents also voiced concerns about the responsible use of AI, particularly around data privacy, model transparency, and decision accountability. As AI becomes more embedded in development pipelines, governance and ethical frameworks must evolve in tandem.

🌍 What This Means for the Future
At the Centre for Intelligence of Things (CIoTh), we see this trend as a signpost pointing to a future where AI-enhanced development is the norm—but it must be backed by rigorous ethical standards and collaborative policy-making.

As AI continues to redefine the way we build software and systems, the conversation around trust, transparency, and long-term impact must remain front and centre.
